CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has announced the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, showcasing upgraded camera hardware, enhanced processing power, and longer-lasting batteries. The devices feature a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with an adjustable aperture. Additionally, they incorporate the A20 Pro processor along with a redesigned vapor chamber that provides improved sustained performance. The Dynamic Island has been scaled down in size while its capabilities have been expanded. Preorders start on September 12, with initial retail availability beginning September 18.

The new main camera employs six laser-cut blades to control the aperture across four settings. Users are able to modify aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. The interface now includes a histogram to help monitor exposure when framing a shot. Apple has upgraded Photographic Styles with new controls for texture and grain. For video, users can add Cinematic effects after recording at up to 60 frames per second. Additionally, time-lapse recording now supports 4K video with Dolby Vision HDR.
A noteworthy camera feature, called Apple Reference Image, is designed to verify the authenticity of photographs. It captures signed sensor data alongside images taken with the Main camera. This data is processed through Private Cloud Compute into a reference image stored in the Photos app. Users can compare this reference with the original photo to detect any changes. Apple also plans to introduce SynthID support later in 2026. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s worldwide marketing chief, emphasized enhancements in camera technology, performance, battery life, and intelligence during the launch event.
New Control over Photography with Variable Aperture
The A20 Pro chip is built on a 2-nanometer process and features a six-core CPU paired with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU provides performance that is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The processor also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores. Its thermal system has been redesigned, placing the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber, which has three times more surface area than the previous version. Apple states this design allows for up to 40% higher sustained performance.
Battery life improvements are most prominent on models that use eSIM-only configurations, which utilize space that was formerly dedicated to a physical SIM tray. According to Apple’s testing, the iPhone 18 Pro can provide up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach 45 hours. Wired charging support allows the device to reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes. eSIM-only variants will be available in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, among other markets.
iOS 27 Introduces Siri AI and Enhanced Apple Intelligence Features
Both the iPhone 18 Pro models come with iOS 27 and are compatible with the latest Apple Intelligence innovations. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish following in October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos to respond more effectively. It can also act on information displayed on the screen. Cloud-based tasks supported by Private Cloud Compute, while other Apple Intelligence features operate directly on the device.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, with the Pro Max starting at $1,299. Buyers can choose storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. The phones are available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. Sales will commence on September 18 across over 65 countries and regions, with an additional 20 markets joining the rollout on September 25, expanding the reach of Apple’s latest Pro series.
