According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), air travel recovery accelerated heading into the busy summer travel season in the Northern Hemisphere. Compared to May 2021, the total traffic in May 2022 was up 83 percent, largely because of a strong recovery in international traffic. Under the latest mandate of the Chinese Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, will resume direct passenger flights between Abu Dhabi and Beijing from 29th June, 2022. This will be the first regular direct international passenger flight to resume for Beijing by any airline. Etihad Airways said in a statement that the resumption of direct flights between the two capitals signifies another step forward in the UAE-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
